Chapter Chair: Julia Budjan
Immediate Past Chair: Harvey Smalheiser
Harvey is a financial executive who spent his career in senior management positions with Fortune 500 Companies and international CPA firms focused on corporate taxation, strategy, M&A and financial management. He also served on the Board of Directors of numerous small to medium sized not for profit enterprises lending his business experience to assist these organizations in getting started and in growing. He has also worked with numerous startups. Harvey is a CPA (NJ) and a member of the Bar (NY). He has been a resident of the Raleigh area since 2010 and a SCORE volunteer since early 2012.
Treasurer: David Farrington
David is a native of Chicago and has a BS Degree in Marketing/Management from the University of Alabama. He is also a graduate of the Security Industry Institute of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His almost 40 year career was spent in the financial securities industry with the last 27 years as an officer in area branch management at locations in Chicago, Portland, OR, Washington, DC and Raleigh, NC. His responsibilities in each area covered everything from selecting locations, recruiting, hiring, training and supervising personnel to financial profitability of his location and legal and compliance oversight with local, state and federal agencies. David is married and has lived in Raleigh for the past 20 years. He retired in 2005 and has been with the Raleigh SCORE Chapter since 2008 and has also served as an officer and board member of several other local area non-profit organizations.
Vice Chair Mentor Management and Operations: David Grant
David graduated from the University of Toronto in Computer Science. During his working career, he has held various manufacturing assignments as Plant Manager, VP of Materials and VP of Global Supply Chain, and Information Technology assignments as VP System's Development, VP Operations and CIO. All of these were with large companies. After his retirement 9 years ago, he has been very involved as CEO of a small company that developed a solution for tracking Alzheimer's residents in Assisted Living Homes, owned his own Painting company, reorganized a major airline's repair operations, taught for NC State, and been a SCORE volunteer counselor for the last 4 years.
Vice Chair Marketing: Regis Rulifson
Regis completed a 36-year career with John Deere, retiring in 2014. Over the course of his career with Deere, Regis participated in the development and growth of a start-up health management company, created new business and product segments within the health care and equipment business unit, developed and led strategic planning and business growth efforts and led the divestiture of several business units.
In retirement he worked on a volunteer basis with small businesses in the development of their new or existing business plans.
Vice Chair Information Technology: Dennis Weldon
Dennis Weldon has management experience in various industries and functions. He spent the early part of his career as a management consultant, serving clients in both the transportation and electric utility industries, where he helped them to develop and implement short and long range plans to improve their businesses. Later in his career he moved into Information Technology. With a Fortune 500 electric utility, he managed implementation of a new IT function and was also responsible for management of the company’s human resource and financial systems. He attained a certification as Project Management Professional with the Project Management Institute. He also earned a certification as a Senior Project Manager with IBM, where he managed several large IT system implementation projects supporting manufacturing. As a senior manager with IBM, he worked with US and international clients in the finance, health care, pharmaceutical, and state and federal government industries to manage their IT functions. He has a B.S degree in Aerospace Engineering and an MBA.
